Frequently Asked Questions

Take a look at some of the most common questions I’ve received from my clients. If you can’t find the answers you’re looking for, get in touch and I will get back to you.

Am I suitable for the treatment?

The treatments offered are not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking certain blood thinning medications, and in clients with some medical conditions such as active inflammatory arthritis. A thorough consultation at the time of your appointment will take place to ensure you are suitable and a personalised treatment plan will be recommended.

Will it hurt?

Wrinkle-relaxing injections involve a very fine needle so most patients tolerate this well with no anaesthesia. Please request a numbing cream if you are nervous about needles.

The dermal filler products that we use in clinic include an anaesthetic/numbing agent in them which should help to relieve some of the discomfort but you may still find it slightly uncomfortable. It should not be painful though so if you do find this to be the case then it is important to tell us at the time.

We usually use numbing cream prior to any skin booster treatments so the discomfort is minimal.

Microneedling can be uncomfortable in some areas of your face however we can adjust the treatment at the time based on your tolerance and feedback.

Are there side effects?

Wrinkle-relaxing injections are generally considered very safe with few side effects. There may be some minor redness, pin prick marks or swelling, or less frequently bruising or infection. Headaches can sometimes occur and rarely temporary eyelid drooping.

After treatment with dermal fillers you may experience some redness,  possibly swelling, tenderness and bruising. This may be more apparent the following day. Sometimes some lumpiness can be felt. Very rarely allergic reactions have been reported. Also rarely blood supply from small vessels can be disrupted - you will be told the signs to look out for which could suggest this is happening and treatment can be reversible with a further injection to prevent scarring.

Skin boosters can also cause some minor redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising at the site of injections although these usually settle within a few days.

There’s no significant downtime with microneedling. You may experience some mild redness and irritation for 2 – 3 days, but this will subside quickly. When receiving Dermalogica’s PRO Microneedling treatment PRO Restore is included as part of your aftercare program. This advanced formula helps minimise downtime and skin recovery with enhanced results.

How long will it take?

Allow about 45 minutes for your appointment. The treatments themselves don't take more than 15 minutes, however an initial thorough consultation to ensure what is right for you is very important. If, after our discussion and recommendations, you want to think about the options and return on another day for the treatment that is absolutely fine. It's important you're happy and comfortable with the process.

How long will treatment last?

The results of wrinkle-relaxing injections may be seen within a few days but maximum effect may not be seen until 4 weeks after treatment. It should last for up to 4 months.

Dermal filler treatment effects can be seen straight away but it is best to judge them after a week or so to allow any swelling to resolve. Results can last 6 - 12 months depending on the area treated.

Skin boosters can produce results within a few days although for maximum effect expect to see results from 4 weeks. Depending on the type of booster, between 2 and 4 initial treatments are recommended which should last for about 6 months, after which a single treatment is usually advised every 6 months in order to maintain results.

With microneedling, results can vary depending on skin type and specific concerns addressed. An initial treatment course of 3-6 sessions is usually advised. For most people they can expect results to last for several months after a treatment course, and for some for over a year or more.
